Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - The Perfect Reason to Talk to Yourself
Many people have a hard time asking for help. Maybe you were raised to be self-reliant, maybe you have a tiny streak of perfectionism – or a big one – or maybe you’re very introverted and it feels like you’re imposing on the other person when you ask for help.
Try thinking about it this way – asking for help isn’t giving up, it’s refusing to give up. It’s saying to yourself and to the world that the thing you’re doing is worth doing right and you haven’t learned how to do that yet.
Getting input from someone else is a way for you to learn, and is a way for the other person to feel needed and useful.
If you have trouble asking for help, practice doing it when no one is around. Seriously – ask out loud for help when you get stuck, that way when you need help and there’s a person there who can help you, it won’t feel so scary to ask.
