I love to draw and paint and am not terribly good at either. Every now and then, something surprises me and turns out better than I thought it would.
Most people have something they’d love to do and feel they’re not terribly good at. What’s yours?
Do you pick it up and try it now and then, and how does it feel when you do it well? How does it feel when you don’t?
I’ve been known to wad up page after page of my sketchbook in frustration, because the picture in my head isn’t showing up on the paper. If that happens to you, too, remember this: no one starts out as an expert. No one.
When you want to be good at something, fuel the passion you have for it with patience and practice. When frustration sets in, walk away. Go back when your desire to try again is lighting your fire.
You can do what you’re longing to do – be OK with being not-great until you become great, because you will.
