Preparing Yourself for Difficult People - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
Is there someone in your life who can be very very very difficult to be around? They run on knee-jerk emotion, are offensively defensive, and the cherry on top is that they’re judgmental?
Wow…fun times!
Wouldn’t it be lovely to wave a wand and have them suddenly be the balanced, reasonable, fun person you wish they could be? Yeah…not gonna happen. And the harder you try to help them behave better, the more frustrated you become.
You can’t change another person. You can change how you choose to see them, how much time you spend around them, and how you let them affect you or not.
Before you’ll be around this person, think of how they usually act. Prepare yourself mentally for them to act that way. Apply imaginary duct tape to your lips. Have reasons to have to leave the room, or even leave the event early.
You take care of you. You’re the important person in this equation.
