Did you know you’re a big chemical factory?

Your feelings happen when your brain delivers shots of specific chemicals. The “warm fuzzy feeling” chemical is oxytocin and you can make your brain deliver it any time you want.

How? Do something nice for someone.

Doing something nice for others gives you a hit of oxytocin. One of the ways I trigger that feeling might be something you’ll have fun with, too. They’re called drive-by’s. When running errands, I pay attention to the people around me and call out excellence or creativity or beauty when I see it. If a woman has a fabulous smile, I tell her she’s winning at smiles today. When a little girl has on sparkly shoes, I tell her she’s winning at shoes. If a man is particularly well-dressed, I tell him he’s winning the GQ award.

The smiles I get tell me that they appreciate being noticed, and the feeling that gives me is at least as good at what I gave them. Do some drive-by’s and let them lift your spirits too.
