A friend and I were having breakfast recently and she told me about some changes in her workplace that felt bad to her. She felt disrespected and not valuable to an organization she’s poured herself into. The more she talked, the worse she felt.

She was earning an advanced degree in MSU.

Remember MSU? That’s Making Stuff Up. Our brains can put together amazing scenarios about what happened, why it happened, who caused it to happen and how much they are out to get you, and the scary part is, because it’s happening inside our head, it’s easy for us to believe.

It’s just the brain, trying to make sense of various input data and making stuff up as it goes. Your job, when you notice that happen, is to ask questions to gain clarity before believing or acting on those scenarios.
